H. L. Onstad’s short stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in ZYZZYVA, Harvard Review, Solstice Magazine, and HA Journal, a publication of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College. Her fiction was a runner-up  for Solstice Magazine’s Annual Literary Contest, shortlisted for Uncharted’s Cinematic Short Story Contest, and longlisted for LitMag’s Virginia Woolf Award for Short Fiction.

Her short story, A New Country for a New Woman, appears in Simpsonistas, Vol. 6 (Rare Bird, forthcoming 2024). She is the recipient of an Effie Lee Morris Award from the Women’s National Book Association, San Francisco chapter; an Advisory Board Award from Saint Mary’s College of California,as well as financial support from Community of Writers.
